drone twins

Zürich base

Drone surveying in Zürich and the surrounding region: orthophoto, 3D model, inspection and solar thermography from the city.

drone twins flies from Zürich. Up to about 50 kilometres of driving distance from our base, travel is included in the price; that covers the city, most of the canton and the adjoining parts of Aargau, Zug, Schwyz, Schaffhausen and Thurgau. What counts is the distance of your address, which the calculator works out. Fixed price in two minutes, binding quote within 24 hours.

Service area from Zürich

Our base is in the city of Zürich. From here we reach Winterthur, Baden, Zug, Rapperswil, Bülach and Uster in under an hour; Schaffhausen, Frauenfeld, Lucerne and Wil are still inside the 100-kilometre limit beyond which a daily allowance applies. The calculator works out the travel from your address automatically.

Projects further away in Switzerland, southern Baden and the Alpine region are taken on request; travel and, beyond about 150 kilometres, an overnight stay are then shown transparently in the quote. Multi-day projects are planned so that one trip covers all flights.

Flying in Zürich: permits and airspace

We fly as an operator registered with the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) in the open category: up to 120 metres above ground, within visual line of sight, with certificate of competence and liability insurance. Before every mission we check the federal drone map and the daily airspace bulletin (DABS) for restrictions and nature reserves.

Zürich Airport shapes the airspace over the north of the city and the Glatt valley: special rules apply in the control zone (CTR), and for drones over 250 grams, which is all of ours, every flight closer than five kilometres to the runways needs an exemption permit, issued by Skyguide or the airport operator depending on the area. We know the procedure, apply for the permit on your behalf and allow about two weeks of lead time. Kloten, Opfikon, Bassersdorf, Rümlang and parts of Zürich-Nord and Wallisellen lie in this area.

By the end of 2026, FOCA plans to introduce Switzerland's first U-space in the Zürich area: roughly 10 by 17 kilometres of controlled airspace in which drone flights must be authorised in advance through a U-space service provider. We are preparing for it so that your projects in the Glatt valley keep flying without delay afterwards.

We do not fly over crowds, and over third-party property only with consideration for the neighbourhood and after informing those affected. For flights near hospitals, prisons or military installations we obtain the necessary clearances.

All showcases are real jobs from the Swiss Plateau and the High Rhine, and you can view the original data in the browser: a 7.0-hectare landfill mapped in seven minutes of flight time and processed into point cloud, terrain model and orthophoto; a collapsed farmhouse documented as a measurable 3D model for insurer and surveyor; a 2.8 MWp photovoltaic plant on the High Rhine, 4,900 modules thermographed in one morning, 325 findings.

Frequently asked questions about drone flights in Zürich

Are you allowed to fly in the city of Zürich?
Yes. Outside the airport control zone the normal open-category rules apply: up to 120 metres above ground, within line of sight, not over crowds. Local restrictions exist there too, such as nature reserves, hospitals or temporary closures, which we check on the federal drone map and in the DABS before every flight. Over residential areas we inform the neighbourhood and fly as briefly and as high as necessary. In Zürich-Nord and the Glatt valley we check beforehand whether your object lies in the control zone.
What about Zürich Airport?
Closer than five kilometres to the runways, every flight with a drone over 250 grams needs an exemption permit, from Skyguide or the airport operator depending on the area. We apply for it on your behalf and allow about two weeks of lead time. In the rest of the control zone the normal rules apply up to 120 metres above ground; only above that is Skyguide approval required, which we take into account in flight planning.
How quickly can you be on site?
Within the canton of Zürich usually within a week of the order, weather permitting. Thermography flights need sun and little wind, survey flights even light; we propose the right date.
Does travel within the city cost extra?
No. Up to about 50 kilometres of driving distance from your address to our base in Zürich, travel is included in the standard price; that covers the city and most of the canton. The calculator works the distance out from your address.
Do you also fly outside Zürich?
Yes, throughout Switzerland, in southern Baden and the Alpine region. From 100 kilometres a daily allowance applies, from about 150 kilometres we recommend an overnight stay on site; both are shown transparently in the quote.
